Spravato (Esketamine) Therapy
What is Spravato and how does it work?
Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved treatment for adults with depression that has not improved after trying other antidepressants. It is administered as a prescription nasal spray in the office under medical supervision. Spravato works differently from traditional antidepressants by targeting certain receptors in the brain involved in mood regulation, which may help improve symptoms for some individuals who have not responded to other treatments.

Who qualifies for Spravato treament?
Spravato may be considered for adults diagnosed with major depressive disorder who have not experienced adequate improvement after trying at least two antidepressant medications. A consultation visit is required to determine eligibility.

Do I have to be an established patient to receive Spravato?
No. You do not need to be an established patient in the practice to schedule a consultation. If treatment is determined to be appropriate, Spravato can be initiated in this office while you continue ongoing care with your primary mental health provider. Coordination of care can be arranged as needed to support continuity and safety.

Is Spravato covered by insurance?
Yes. ,Many commercial, medicaid, and medicare insurance plans cover Spravato for eligible patients; however, most plans require prior authorization approval before treatment can begin. Insurance benefits are verified in advance so you understand your coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs. Depending on eligibility, some patients may also qualify for the Spravato Savings Program offered by the manufacturer to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses.

What should I expect during a Spravato treatment session?
Spravato is administered in-office under medical supervision. After receiving the nasal spray, patients remain in the office for a monitoring period to ensure safety. During this time, you will be seated in a comfortable recliner in a quiet room designed to promote relaxation, with options such as dimmed lighting, soft music, or television available. You are welcome to wear comfortable clothing and may bring items such as headphones or a small blanket if that helps you feel more at ease. Our goal is to provide a safe, calm, and supportive environment throughout your visit.
